Fordham Professor wins NIH Peer Review Challenge!

NIH's Center for Scientific Review issued a challenge to Maximize Fairness in NIH Peer Review when a study revealed that black applicants do not fare as well as white applicants. Challenge #1 was "New Methods to Detect Bias in Peer Review", and the winner for that category is David Budescu from the Psychology Department. Congratulations to David! David and his colleague will receive a $10,000 award.

NSF announces new Merit Review criteria

Based on a review of their processes by the National Science Board, the NSF will be adopting revised Merit Review criteria for all proposals submitted on or after January 14, 2013. The full review procedure is here; a Powerpoint-style overview can be found here.

National Science Board wants your input on the NSF

The National Science Board recently reviewed the NSF's "Intellectual Merits" and "Broader Impacts" merit review criteria and are asking for your input on their proposed revisions. Please see this "Dear Colleague" letter for information on how to contribute to the discussion.
